Why Chicago Businesses Can’t Afford to Skip SOC Monitoring

Most small and mid-sized businesses assume they’re too small to be a target. The data says the opposite. According to Verizon’s 2025 Data Breach Investigations Report, ransomware was present in 88% of breaches at small and medium-sized businesses, compared to just 39% at larger organizations. Attackers go after SMBs precisely because they tend to have weaker monitoring and slower response. The cost of getting caught without a SOC keeps climbing. IBM’s 2025 Cost of a Data Breach Report found that organizations took a global average of 241 days to identify and contain a breach, the fastest pace in nine years, but still nearly eight months of undetected exposure for organizations without strong detection capabilities. That’s eight months where an attacker can sit inside your network, moving laterally and pulling data, before anyone notices. Common gaps we see in Chicago businesses before they bring on SOC services:

No one is watching logs, alerts, or network traffic outside business hours
Security tools are deployed but nobody is triaging the alerts they generate
Suspicious login attempts and unusual account activity go unreviewed for days or weeks
No formal incident response process when something does get flagged
Endpoint protection exists but isn’t centrally monitored or correlated across systems
No visibility into whether a vendor or third-party connection has been compromised

What CTI’s SOC Services Include

Assessment

We start by mapping your current environment, including endpoints, cloud systems, network infrastructure, and identity access. This tells us where your blind spots are before we turn on monitoring, so we’re not just watching noise. This is closely tied to the work covered in our risk assessments for Chicago businesses, which identifies the gaps a SOC needs to close.

Implementation

We deploy and configure monitoring across your endpoints, email, cloud systems, and network. For Microsoft 365 environments, that includes identity and access controls like MFA and Conditional Access, tuned to catch abnormal sign-ins and privilege escalation without burying your team in false positives.

Ongoing Monitoring & Detection

Our SOC watches your environment continuously, correlating alerts across systems to spot patterns a single tool would miss. Suspicious activity gets investigated in real time, not reviewed the next business day.

Response & Remediation

When something is flagged, our engineers act immediately, isolating affected systems, cutting off unauthorized access, and walking through remediation steps. You get a clear record of what happened and what was done about it, which matters for compliance and for cyber insurance requirements. This work sits alongside our broader cybersecurity services in Chicago and our managed IT services, so SOC monitoring isn’t a bolt-on. It’s built into how we manage your environment day to day.

Why Businesses Choose CTI for SOC Services

CTI Technology isn’t a break/fix vendor that added a SOC as an upsell. Security is embedded into every layer of how we manage IT, from user access to infrastructure to the cloud. We’ve built a strong specialization supporting law firms and professional services organizations across Chicago, where confidentiality, compliance, and audit readiness aren’t optional. Our unlimited support model means your team can flag anything that looks off without worrying about a bill. That matters more than it sounds. A lot of breaches start with something small that a user noticed but didn’t report because reporting felt like a hassle. Every managed client also gets a dedicated Account Manager who runs quarterly Technology Business Reviews, covering environment health, cyber risk trends, and where your security posture stands relative to where it should be. SOC monitoring isn’t just a dashboard you never look at. It’s part of an ongoing conversation about your risk.

Get Started with SOC Services Today

If your business is running without 24/7 monitoring, you’re operating with a blind spot that attackers are actively looking to exploit. CTI Technology can assess your current environment, show you exactly where the gaps are, and get continuous SOC monitoring in place without disrupting how your team works.

FAQ

What’s the difference between a SOC and regular antivirus or endpoint protection? Antivirus and endpoint tools flag individual events on individual devices. A SOC correlates activity across your entire environment, endpoints, email, cloud, and network, and has people actively watching and responding to what those tools surface, 24/7. Do I need a SOC if I already have Microsoft 365 security features turned on? Built-in security features reduce risk but don’t monitor and respond on their own. Someone needs to review alerts, investigate anomalies, and act quickly when something looks wrong. That’s what a SOC adds. How quickly does CTI respond to a flagged threat? Our SOC provides 24/7 security monitoring & emergency response, so alerts are reviewed and acted on in real time rather than during the next business day, which is often the difference between an isolated incident and a full breach.
